The Issue
A busy practice means constant interruptions. You forget to switch your timer from one matter to another. You forget to start your timer. You forget to stop your timer. By the end of the day, you're reconstructing hours of work from memory or just end up writing off time. Automated time tracking promised the solution: accurate billing with minimal time or effort.
Searching for Answers
As a practicing lawyer, I spent years searching for the best time tracking tool. I tried Chrometa, TimeCamp, Harvest, Clockify, Toggl and others. To be fair, these tools captured more billable time than manual time tracking. Some did too much with complex, unnecessary features. Most of them try to lock you into their ecosystems by uploading your raw logs to their cloud while providing limited export features. All of them promise to free up your time.
Reality Bites
The reality fell short. Every system demanded extensive setup—complex rule sets, AI training, constant retraining for new clients. Then came hours of review to catch misallocations. More billable time captured? Yes. Time saved? No.
Breakthroughs
With the recent emergence of large language models, the technology has finally reached the point where automated time tracking can deliver on that second promise and actually free up your time. AI can now understand context, learn patterns, and automate the tedious parts of time tracking while maintaining the accuracy and detail that legal billing and other knowledge work demands.
The Solution
SYNCOPaiD is the result of that journey. I built it initially just for myself and my own practice, so every feature is a response to real-world needs and tested under real-world conditions. I programmed it to capture every billable moment without interrupting my work. I refined it to identify new client matters on its own initiative so that I would have one less thing to keep track of.
